Leeds United have been reported hold an interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi.

Daniel Farke will have his transfer priorities in mind, but if the chance to strengthen any other area of his squad comes up, he's unlikely to think twice.

And in regard to Elvedi, that seems to be the case.

Leeds have been linked with a move for the Swiss defender, who played under Farke back in the 2022-23 season.

Elvedi has been a regular for the Bundesliga side ever since, having now made 364 appearances.

However, if his next appearance is to be for the Whites, Leeds will have to up the ante when it comes to their pursuit.

Monchengladbach's plan with Nico Elvedi revealed

The 29-year-old has just one year left on his contract with the German outfit, and as a result, they are looking to extend that this summer.

That is according to a report from Rheinische Post, which states that they plan to offer him a new deal.

For Leeds, that increases their need to push for a transfer if they are serious about their interest, with the report also mentioning that an official bid has yet to be submitted for the defender.

If Monchengladbach are to part ways with the Swiss centre-back, it's claimed they would require a good fee to do so.

However, any decision on his future is not expected to be made until after the World Cup, at which he will be hoping to add to the 70 caps he already has for his country.

What would Elvedi's arrival mean for Joe Rodon ?

Given the role that he has at Monchengladbach, Elvedi is highly unlikely to move to Elland Road without assurances over gametime.

If he is to complete a transfer, it would almost certainly be with a view to him starting.

And for Joe Rodon, that spells nothing but bad news. Not because he was poor last season, but because he is the player most commonly used on the right side of defence.

Farke likes balance in his team, and having a right-footed defender on the left would obstruct that, making Rodon the easiest to replace.
