Nico Elvedi ‘dreams of move’ already in new Leeds United transfer alert
Leeds United target Nico Elvedi dreams of a move abroad with Borussia Monchengladbach potentially looking to offload him, according to Sport Bild.
The German outlet reported on 15 January that with Monchengladbach looking to strengthen and having a transfer budget of “barely” £5million, the Bundesliga side could sell Elvedi shortly [Ben Jacobs, 2 January].
The Bundesliga side are keen on signing FC Copenhagen centre-back Kevin Diks, so one of either Elvedi or Japan international Ko Itakura could be sold, as contract discussions with the latter have stalled.
Elvedi, however, “dreams of moving abroad”, and given a reunion with former boss Daniel Farke has been mooted at Elland Road, the Swiss defender’s desire could see the Whites launch a transfer bid for him.
Nico Elvedi transfer wish paves the way for Leeds United switch
While Monchengladbach are unlikely to sanction an early exit in the next few weeks for Elvedi – with their top target Diks available for free in the summer – his name will be admired in LS11.
Farke has made clear in recent press conferences that while he anticipates a quiet winter window on the incomings front, with the manager given the final say and plenty of influence on transfer decisions.

Central defensive cover is one area the Whites will certainly need to prioritise if promotion to the top flight is achieved at the end of the season, with much more than Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk needed.
Max Wober’s fitness issues have only seen him used sparingly – and at left-back – while captain Ethan Ampadu’s long-term position is clearly in defensive midfield when Farke has a full squad to choose from.
Reuniting Elvedi with his former manager in the summer could prove to be a shrewd move for all parties, but with a January switch unlikely, full focus will shift onto the task at hand.
