New Mohamed Amoura to Leeds update emerges on deadline day after he’s axed by Wolfsburg

Leeds United are still working hard behind the scenes to get some late transfer business done before the window slams shut on Monday.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Wolfsburg forward Mohamed Amoura over the past few days, with a new striker thought to be one of the positions Daniel Farke is looking at.

Those rumours were exacerbated when 25-year-old Algeria international Amoura was omitted from the squad as Wolfsburg lost to Cologne in the Bundesliga on Friday.

Wolfsburg boss Daniel Bauer dramatically called out Amoura for his loyalty to Wolfsburg after that game, saying: “The idea that ‘we, the team, comes first ‘ doesn’t apply to Mohamed.”

It looks as though Leeds now have a definitive direction when it comes to their plans for Amoura on deadline day.

Will Leeds United sign Mohamed Amoura on deadline day?

Leeds have been exploring options, including Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, who looks certain to join Premier League rivals Crystal Palace instead.

However, it now appears that 5ft, 7in forward Amoura will not be swapping Germany for West Yorkshire, according to LeedsLive report Isaac Johnson.

The journalist reported on the outlet’s transfer live blog that rumours about a move for Amoura have “died down anyway” as we approach the 7pm deadline in the Premier League.

He added that reports of a move by Leeds are “off target” and that he is not a player on Leeds’ radar for a late deadline day swoop.

So, if Leeds do bolster their forward options before the close of play on Monday, it looks as though Amoura will not arriving at Elland Road.

Who else could Leeds United sign on deadline day?

There have been reports that Leeds could look to bolster their goalkeeping ranks before the window closes later on Monday.

Summer arrival Lucas Perri is reportedly attracting interest from Beskitas after a poor start to life at Leeds and has been benched in recent weeks for Karl Darlow.

Darlow was at fault for Arsenal’s second as Leeds went down 4-0 at the weekend, and with Illan Meslier also well out of favour, Farke might try and make a late swoop for a new shot-stopper.

There are also reports that Leeds are looking into the possibility of re-signing winger Jaidon Anthony from Premier League strugglers Burnley.

The winger spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Leeds, and Burnley are said to want £25m for Anthony to sanction a sale before deadline day.
