Miguel Gutierrez to start for Real Madrid on Thursday amid Leeds United interest

Real Madrid want to keep young left-back Miguel Gutierrez amid interest from Leeds United, according to El Espanol.

TeamTalk reported last month that Victor Orta had been offered the chance to sign 19-year-old Gutierrez with Leeds keen on a loan-to-buy deal.

However, El Espanol now claims that Real Madrid want to keep Gutierrez for next season and if they let him leave, it would only be on a straight loan deal.

That is because legendary Real Madrid left-back Marcelo will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and if they move him on, Gutierrez will be seen as a back-up for Ferland Mendy.

New left-back needed

Leeds need a new left-back in the summer with Ezgjan Alioski strongly linked with a move away from Elland Road.

Alioski’s contract expires at the end of next month so it seems likely that he’ll be moving on and that will leave Marcelo Bielsa and Orta in need of a replacement at left-back.

Gutierrez is inexperienced having made just three senior appearances for Real Madrid.

All three of those appearances have come in Madrid’s last three La Liga matches and El Espanol reports he’s set to earn a full debut on Thursday night when Zinedine Zidane’s side takes on Granada.

But if anyone is going to get the most out of Gutierrez it’s going to be Bielsa and his fantastic coaching team at Thorp Arch.

No members of Leeds’ squad have got worse since Bielsa’s arrival at Elland Road, all of them have improved by leaps and bounds.

Gutierrez is an out-and-out left-back, something which Bielsa hasn’t really had to work this season.

Give him time and we’re sure the Real youngster can shine but unfortunately, the La Liga giants seem to know that too.
