Medical soon: Leeds United on verge of signing Brenden Aaronson as Sky journalist shares new update

Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson will “soon” undergo a medical to join Leeds United, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Monday (23 May), Plettenberg claimed that there is a “total agreement” between Leeds and Salzburg for Aaronson, 21, to head to Yorkshire in a deal worth between £23.7million and £25.4million.

It’s at the point where the USA international is set for a medical with the Whites, who initially tried signing him in the January transfer window.

“Great transfer”

Are Leeds finally going to sign a new midfielder?

Not since Adam Forshaw’s arrival from Middlesbrough in January 2018 have the Whites bolstered the central area of their senior squad.

It’s been a long time coming and the failure to add that position under Marcelo Bielsa’s rule was one of the reasons why the Yorkshire giants were in so much trouble this season in the Premier League.

Aaronson is a very talented young player.

He’s an attacking midfielder primarily so we can expect to see him sitting in the number 10 role behind Patrick Bamford – or another striker if Victor Orta adds to that area too – while the American can also sit deeper in the middle of the park.

This season, Aaronson scored six goals and supplied nine assists in 40 appearances across all competitions for Salzburg.

He won the Austrian league title with the Red Bull outfit and also helped them reach the last-16 of the Champions League, assisting goals in each leg of their aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich.

We’re confident that Plettenberg’s view of this being a “great transfer” will be correct.

Leeds are crying out for Aaronson.

Jesse Marsch will no doubt be overjoyed to bring in a fellow American who’s not only been on Orta’s radar previously, but is also a very talented young man who can do a much-needed job for the Whites.
