Marseille boss Bruno Genesio in meltdown over Igor Paixao amid Leeds and Sunderland latest

Bruno Genesio isn't happy with Marseille's decision to offload Igor Paixao amid speculation linking him with Leeds United and Sunderland.

Leeds have been interested in signing Paixao, 26, this summer.

However, Sunderland have pressed forward and look set to swoop in and sign the Brazilian before the summer transfer window shuts at 11pm next Tuesday.

Despite Genesio wanting to keep Paixao amid Marseille's financial issues, owner Frank McCourt has forced the Ligue 1 club into offloading the ex-Feyenoord star.

Sunderland are now submitting a renewed bid to beat Leeds to Paixao's signature after McCourt's decision.

And that isn't going down well with Genesio.

Marseille in meltdown over Igor Paixao's future

According to Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis, Genesio is taking Paixao's "imminent" move to Sunderland "very badly".

Marseille have already let Geronimo Rulli, Mason Greenwood and Facundo Medina this summer and as reported on Foot Mercato's website, Genesio was aware of the need to sell players.

However, Paixao's move to Sunderland stings and an "explosive situation" is developing in the south of France.

What's likely to cause even more concern for Genesio - and what may raise eyebrows at Leeds - is that while McCourt is the majority 95 per cent owner of Marseille, the remaining five per cent is owned by Margarita Louis-Dreyfus.

Her son is Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, the majority owner of Sunderland.

Why Leeds can also use similar advantage of their own

The literal relationship between the owners at Sunderland and Marseille may have pushed through this deal, which may seem a bit unfair to Leeds.

However, the Whites are owned by 49ers Enterprises and part-owned by Red Bull.

49ers have a stake at Rangers and Red Bull, obviously, have their whole empire that Leeds can look to utilise more.

We've seen recently that RB Leipzig forward Conrad Harder is now a target for Leeds, but there's got to be more that the Yorkshire club can do to make the most of their relationships with these clubs.
