Sunderland are submitting a second bid for Leeds United target Igor Paixao on Wednesday.

Marseille have, however, been standing firm when interest has been shown in the 26-year-old, who bagged an assist in his first appearance of the season on Saturday in a 4-0 win over Strasbourg.

Despite Leeds' interest in Paixao first emerging when he played for Feyenoord last summer, it seems as though the Yorkshire giants could now be set to miss out on him once and for all with Sunderland pushing hard for a deal.

According to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Marseille have already rejected a £21.4million offer from Sunderland for Paixao.

However, new developments are set to emerge on Wednesday.

Marseille owner gets involved to push through Igor Paixao sale

Tavolieri reports that Sunderland are tabling a new bid for Paixao on Wednesday after Marseille owner Frank McCourt "demanded" he was sold.

It is understood that Paixao didn't initially want to leave the Ligue 1 club, however, the deal is now being forced through due to their financial situation.

Paixao is said to be "ok with the terms".

It'll be interesting to see what unfolds at Marseille now because manager Bruno Genesio wants to keep Paixao, despite McCourt's efforts to sell him.

Ultimately, the owner will win any kind of power struggle like that, but could this present an opening for Leeds to return to the table?

Will Leeds now make a move for Paixao?

Farke definitely wants to sign a new left-winger before the transfer window closes at 11pm next Tuesday.

Paixao looks like a good fit, too, as in his debut season at Marseille last term, he scored 12 times and bagged seven assists in 42 total outings.

However, Sunderland can offer him European football this season and after playing in the Champions League for Marseille, he won't want to step back into playing solely domestically with Leeds.

It's unfortunate and fans will be hoping that the ex-Feyenoord star won't be seen as the one who got away.

And because Sunderland keep on making the right decisions in the transfer market, it's likely that will end up being the case.
