Leicester City in hot pursuit of Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier amid Fabrizio Romano news
Leicester City have turned their attention toward signing Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier before the summer transfer window closes, according to GetFrenchFootballNews.
Leicester’s interest comes despite Fabrizio Romano reporting earlier on Wednesday that Meslier is “untouchable” at Leeds, who won’t consider negotiating with Manchester United for him amid speculation linking the French goalkeeper with a move to Old Trafford.
Leeds have no interest in selling Meslier and we really don’t see why the French shot-stopper would have any interest in joining a Leicester side that’s clearly on the decline.
Kasper Schmeichel surprisingly quit the King Power Stadium earlier this season, leaving Danny Ward as Brenden Rodgers’ new number one in between the sticks.
It’s a pretty dire situation in the East Midlands and we really don’t see the Foxes finishing much higher – if at all – than Leeds this season.
Meslier has a good thing going at Leeds.
Former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News on 25 July that Meslier is a “fantastic talent” who he sees playing for a Champions League club in the future.
Robinson did, however, predict that this could be Meslier’s final season at Elland Road unless Leeds improve dramatically upon last season.
He said: “I’ve got no doubt that he will move on and play Champions League football at some point of his career.
“It’s a wise decision to stay at Leeds and play as their number one, if they have a similar season to last season though, they will struggle to keep hold of him.
“If he plays the way he does, there will be big clubs around Europe come looking at him.“
We’re fully prepared for that to happen at some point – maybe even next summer.
But Leeds cannot sell Meslier now. You don’t sell your number one goalkeeper halfway through August when the transfer window is just two weeks away from closing.
