Legia Warsaw boss wants to sign Leeds talent Mateusz Bogusz

Legia Warsaw boss Czeslaw Michniewicz wants to sign Mateusz Bogusz from Leeds United this summer but admitted it’s a big ask.

Polish news outlet Meczyki recently reported that the Unders-23s midfielder had entered advanced talks with the Ekstraklasa league leaders ahead of a loan move next season.

Bogusz, 19, is currently out on loan at second-tier Spanish side UD Logrones where he has failed to catch fire, scoring once in 18 appearances.

Reports of a move back to Poland, with a permanent clause included, looked to have legs but Legia boss Michniewicz has poured cold water on this suggestion, as reported by Sport.PL.

“I like players of this type like Mateusz,” he said.

“He has a great technique, a sense for combination play. He has had a tremendous amount of work with coach Marcelo Bielsa in terms of getting around the pitch. He shows his behaviour as a model.

“I must admit that I would like him to be in Legia. It may not be a realistic transfer, because Bielsa did not want to agree to loan Mateusz to Spain.

“For today, I would give a few percent chance of success. Although I would like him to come to Legia.”

After floundering in one foreign loan perhaps Bielsa wants to keep him closer to home this time around.

At 19, Bogusz still has plenty of development ahead of him yet.

There’s the possibility that he could get a chance in the Under-23s side next season after their promotion to the first division of the PL2.

With Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood all starting to hover around the fringes of El Loco’s first-team squad there might be opportunities to get into Mark Jackson’s side.

But a lot will depend on our transfer business this summer and if some big-hitters are brought in expect Gelhardt and co to continue their development with second-string outings.

Loaning Bogusz to an English side in the Championship or League One however, would allow the Whites to keep a watchful eye and probably help to drive up his value if they do indeed decide to discard with his services next year.

With Michniewicz detailing Bielsa’s stance on Bogusz’s loan move to Spain this season it seems unlikely he will sanction another one to Poland, unless it is a permanent deal with the right finances.
