Leeds want to sign Marcus Tavernier in January

Leeds United want to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier in January, according to TEAMtalk.

The online outlet has reported that Victor Orta wants to use his relationships from his former side to his advantage.

Orta is said to be a big fan of the 22-year-old and Boro are said to have a challenge on their hands to keep him past January.

Tavernier is said to have interest from more Premier League sides.

Southampton, Brighton and Burnley are all said to have been watching the utility-man very closely throughout this season already.

It is suggested that a move for a midfielder in January is something that is being linked to Elland Road closer and closer to the window.

Tavernier wouldn’t be brought in for that role, with more of his performances coming out wide either as a winger or a wing-back.

Utility.

Marcelo Bielsa and the Whites run with a small squad, so having players that can play in multiple positions is always critical.

Tavernier was born in Leeds and has experience of playing in the England international youth set-up already in his career.

His brother, James, who currently plays for Rangers is a boyhood Leeds fan and would no doubt love to see one of his family running out at Elland Road.

With interest really starting to heat up, it looks as though it is a matter of time before one of the clubs make their move early.

Could the Whites be one of those? We would class that as unlikely.
