Leeds want to sign creative midfielder, spot in squad could open up if Roberts leaves - report
Leeds United are interested in signing Swansea’s attacking midfielder Yan Dhanda, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper claims that Bournemouth, Marseille, RB Leipzig and Atalanta are also keen on the 22-year-old, who’s struggled for regular game-time at Swansea this season.
It is understood that Dhanda has held talks with Swans boss Steve Cooper about his lack of game-time but the Welsh side are in talks to sign Seattle Sounders winger Jordan Morris.
The Mail adds that Swansea’s move for Morris has alerted clubs to Dhanda’s situation and Leeds could have a spot in their squad for the creative midfielder if Tyler Roberts moves on before the end of the January window.
Roberts to stay?
Roberts, 22, made his first Premier League appearance in four games on Saturday when he came off the bench for the last half an hour of Leeds’ 1-0 defeat to Brighton.
Although his time on the pitch was limited and the Whites were in awful shape, the young Wales international managed to stand out as one of Marcelo Bielsa’s best players.
It remains to be seen whether or not Bielsa played Roberts to stick him in the shop window or he genuinely sees him as someone with a first-team role at Elland Road.
Roberts has played nine times in the top-flight this term and started just twice so he’s hardly a key member of Bielsa’s squad.
However, Bielsa doesn’t like chopping and changing in the January transfer window so we find it hard to believe that he’d let Roberts go just to replace him with Dhanda.
Yes, Dhanda is still young and is someone who Bielsa might be able to mould into a good choice for Leeds in the future.
But we just don’t see Bielsa signing anyone this month unless it’s someone who’ll play for the Under-23s and given Dhanda’s frustration over his game-time at Swansea, we doubt he’d move to West Yorkshire to play youth football.
