BBC Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson claims that there could be something going on behind the scenes at Rangers regarding Leeds United and Ryan Kent.

Rangers have been strongly linked with signing Aberdeen attacker Scott Wright this month with Steven Gerrard confirming on Friday that he is close to signing the 23-year-old [Sky Sports].

Kent, 24, was the subject of a £10million bid by Leeds in the summer and ex-Rangers player Ferguson believes that the Scottish Premiership leaders could be eyeing Wright because of Kent’s link with Elland Road.

“I just think the guy needs games under his belt but if he goes to Rangers, will he get into that first 11? I don’t think so,” Ferguson told Si Ferry’s Open Goal on YouTube.

“The other thing is, we don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes at Rangers. Is somebody coming in for Kent? There obviously has been interest from Leeds United at certain times so maybe there’s something happening there.

“Maybe they look at [Wright] as a replacement.”

No need for Kent any more

Leeds seem to get linked with Kent in every single transfer window and before the end of the summer, we could see why.

He’s a good, young wide-player who’s very pacy, is good with the ball at his feet and has shown at Rangers this season he can get among the goals and the assists.

However, there’s simply no need for him at Elland Road with how many wide players Marcelo Bielsa now has on his books.

Jack Harrison, Ezgjan Alioski, Stuart Dallas, Helder Costa, Raphinha, Ian Poveda, Tyler Roberts and Pablo Hernandez can all do a job on the wings for Leeds. Do they really need to spend more money on Kent?

The ex-Liverpool attacker has scored six goals and supplied 11 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions this term while stats by Wyscout show that he ranks third in the Scottish Premiership for shots [53] and first for one-v-one dribbles [171]. However, that is in Scotland and not against the quality of defenders that you see in the Premier League.

Kent could be a good signing but he would be an unnecessary one.

In other Leeds United news, this Whites player has been offered to a Spanish club.
