Leeds United yet to give up hope on Ezgjan Alioski signing new contract
Leeds United are yet to give up hope on Ezgjan Alioski signing a new deal, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, Anderson reported that even though Alioski, 29, has left it to a “late stage”, the Whites’ contract offer remains on the table for the North Macedonia international.
Leeds have already confirmed they’ve offered Alioski a new deal but D-Day is approaching for the left-back, who’s set to become a free agent in two weeks’ time.
Alioski to decide after Euros?
It would not shock us if Alioski is keeping Leeds hanging to wait and see what sort of offers he gets when the European Championships end.
North Macedonia are playing at the Euros for the first time since their independence from Yugoslavia.
Alioski played in his nation’s opener against Austria on Sunday but unfortunately for him and his countrymen, they lost 3-1.
Former England left-back Ashley Cole was critical of Alioski when Austria scored their opening goal in the first half [ITV], pointing out that the Leeds player switched off for a moment.
We’ve seen that all too often with Alioski while he’s been played at left-back and while we’d want him to do better, he simply isn’t a full-back.
Marcelo Bielsa knows that but he likes to have attack-minded players flanking his defence.
Alioski would be good for us to keep as a back-up option but we do need a proper left-back who can come in and start ahead of him.
It’s just down to whether Alioski wants to play that back-up role and he might be seeing if he gets some decent offers after the Euros if he does well.
