Leeds United want to sign Neal Maupay from Brighton after Patrick Bamford injury

Leeds United are keeping an eye on Neal Maupay’s transfer situation after Patrick Bamford suffered another injury, according to 90min.

The Whites have been looking to add another striker to their squad this summer, but have ended up on the wrong end of sagas including both Charles De Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo so far.

But after Nottingham Forest agreed a £15m deal with Brighton for French striker Maupay, Leeds are now keeping an eye on the deal and could make a move for the 26-year-old.

Patrick Bamford was forced off with another injury during Leeds’ 2-2 draw with Southampton and there is concern that he can’t be relied upon for a full season now.

Everton and Fulham are also interested in Maupay, who has scored 26 Premier League goals in 102 games for the Seagulls.

Leeds are quite obviously worried about the health status of Bamford for the rest of the season, despite the initial prognosis being that this latest issue isn’t too bad.

He missed the vast majority of last season with a foot problem and this year he hasn’t made the sort of impact that many would have hoped for now that he’s 100% fit again.

The addition of another first-team striker is something that would add quality, depth and options for Jesse Marsch to choose from in attack, but could also be a shrewd bit of business.

At £15m he would be cheaper than both of the more seriously linked targets this summer, while also being Premier League proven too.

His energetic and physical style would suit Marsch’s approach too, and Leeds could move quickly to get a deal done and upset their Premier League rivals while also bolstering their own squad.
