Leeds United want to sign Lewis O’Brien amid £15m Huddersfield transfer twist
Leeds United might have to pay over £15million to sign Lewis O’Brien from Huddersfield Town this summer, according to the Huddersfield Examiner.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on 3 June (back page) that the Terriers wanted £15million from Leeds last year when they tried to sign him but after an impressive season, “his stock has risen”.
It is understood that West Brom are also interested in signing the 23-year-old central midfielder but it is unlikely that he’ll want to join another club in the Championship as he’s been tipped to make a move to the Premier League in the future by teammate Jonathan Hogg.

Go and get him
Marcelo Bielsa wanted O’Brien last year and Victor Orta clearly wanted him to.
And if he’s being linked with Leeds again this summer, it’s fair to assume that Jesse Marsch is also a fan of the Essex-born midfielder.
Leeds look to be in pole position to sign O’Brien based on the Examiner’s update.
West Brom do seem a bit out of their depth in their bid to sign the former Bradford loanee, especially given Huddersfield finished well above them this season, they value the player at over £15million and that he’s good enough for a Premier League move.

TeamTalk reported on 1 June that there was a £12million release clause in O’Brien’s deal but this update from the Examiner also suggests that might not be the case.
We’d go with the local news outlet in this instance but it wouldn’t shock us to see O’Brien move to a Premier League club this summer for somewhere in the region of £12million to £15million.
Leeds have already signed one midfielder in Brenden Aaronson with the USA ace arriving from Red Bull Salzburg in May.
He’s an attacking midfielder though and O’Brien can add depth in the deeper area of the engine room and also provide a back-up option if Kalvin Phillips gets injured.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are days away from a major new signing with a medical scheduled.
