Leeds United are interested in Canada's Liam Millar and are tracking the Basel forward at this year's Copa America, according to The Athletic.

The online source reported on Sunday [23 June] that Burnley and Sheffield United are also in the race for the jet-heeled attacker, who is known for his pace, technical quality and mature decision-making, with Premier League teams also interested.

It is understood the 24-year-old, who is currently at Basel in Switzerland, is looking to put pen to paper on a long-term deal in England this summer following a series of loan spells over the past few seasons.

With five goals and five assists in the Championship last season, Millar was one of Preston North End's most influential players, having joined on a season-long loan.

With 96 appearances for Basel since July 2021, it seems the player is ready to return to England, which could leave Leeds in the driving seat for the transfer.

The Whites will certainly be hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and Millar could play an important role in that if he were to sign.

Given his ability to deputise on the left flank, as well as a centre-forward, the 24-year-old could be the perfect signing if Crysencio Summerville were to leave Elland Road this summer.

Of course, there are many moving parts in this scenario, but considering the heavy interest around the Dutchman, it is not unlikely that Daniel Farke will be heading into the 2024/25 campaign without the star attacker.

Millar, who is currently away at Copa America with Canada, has already proven himself in the division and will want to show his former Liverpool side why he should have been given more of an opportunity before being moved on in 2021.

With two loan spells with Kilmarnock, one with Charlton Athletic and another with Preston, it is understandable why the player is looking to now looking to settle down this summer.
