Leeds United want three more signings as medical scheduled for Thursday morning
Leeds United want to complete three new signings before the 30 August transfer deadline, according to Graham Smyth.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via X on Thursday (29 August) that Ao Tanaka is flying to England this morning for a medical with the Whites ahead of his last-minute move from Fortuna Dusseldorf.
On top of the deal for the Japanese international, the Whites are hopeful of making two further additions before the window closes with one of those signings believed to be a new full-back.
While Daniel Farke’s side are eager to get all of their business completed before the transfer window slams shut, Smyth has admitted there are “no guarantees” all transfers will be finalised.
Are Leeds United close to any new signings ahead of Elland Road transfer deadline?
Leeds United have certainly left their business late this summer and while that will be exciting for supporters over the next couple of days, it does mean that the pressure is on as the Whites work against the clock.
Luckily, the deal for Tanaka appears to be all but done barring any last-minute issues that may emerge during his medical. If everything goes as expected, the Japanese midfielder could be a Leeds player by the end of Thursday.
However, time is now running out for the Whites to get deals in place to sign a new fullback and one further player. With less than 48 hours to go in the window, Farke and his recruitment team don’t have too much time to waste.
It is clear that Leeds do need to bolster their options in defence as there is currently a reliance on both Jayden Bogle and Junior Firpo, with Sam Byram the only real alternative waiting in the wings at Elland Road.
Once Tanaka’s move is finalised, the Whites simply have to focus their attention on signing a new fullback before making one last push for a last-gasp signing.
