Leeds United transfers: Conan Ledesma update shared after surprise news

Leeds United will not be signing goalkeeper Jeremias Conan Ledesma this January despite being credited with an interest, according to Leeds Live.

Isaac Johnson’s report (12 January) suggests Ledesma is not on the Whites’ radar in what is expected to be a calm month in the transfer market at Elland Road.

The 31-year-old stopper joined hometown club River Plate in Argentina over the summer from Spanish outfit Cadiz, though was linked with a “surprise” switch to Leeds (Soy del Millo, 7 January) following reported interest which had taken River boss Marcelo Gallardo aback.

Leeds United goalkeeping situation – the latest

Leeds United fans are split on how they should proceed with their goalkeeping predicament.

Daniel Farke has leapt to the defence of under-fire stopper Illan Meslier, who has been number one now for five seasons but has made a string of high-profile errors to cost the Whites vital points this term.

The German’s staunch protection of the 24-year-old means it is unlikely experienced Championship ‘keeper Karl Darlow, who kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Harrogate Town (11 January), will make a serious challenge for the jersey.

Alex Cairns, signed from Salford City, is an experienced third choice, but some sections of Elland Road have called on either a chance for Darlow to start in the league or a new signing between the sticks entirely.

Alongside Ledesma’s link, it was considered by some that teenage Australian stopper Robbie Cook had signed at the club, but is instead merely on trial (Graham Smyth, 9 January).

Meslier could be a tempting player to sell to recoup a fair amount of cash for Leeds, but it appears for now Farke remains fully faithful to the long-time number one.

In other Leeds news, interest remains in a prolific EFL striker despite a hefty bid arriving from overseas.
