Leeds United transfer update on Jonathan Rowe after new bid tabled

Mike McGrath has provided a fresh update on Leeds United and their pursuit of Norwich City forward Jonathan Rowe.

The Daily Telegraph journalist reported on his X account [12 August] that Leeds are still in contention to sign Rowe despite Marseille submitting a bid for the winger on Friday [9 August].

Norwich are yet to accept the bid and Marseille are considering another offer. The 21-year-old was not included in the matchday squad in the 2-0 defeat to Oxford United in the opening match of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

Will Leeds United sign Jonathan Rowe?

Daniel Farke still has work to do in the transfer window before the 30 August deadline as his side began the new Championship season with a disappointing 3-3 draw against newly-promoted Portsmouth.

The void left by Crysencio Summerville is being felt at Elland Road. Despite the Whites putting three past their opponents on Saturday [10 August], it was still not enough to claim victory on the opening day.

Leeds have identified Rowe as the man to replace the Dutchman and will be on alert as Norwich stall on the bid from Marseille as the player was absent from the matchday squad.

There are only a few weeks left of the summer transfer window and the club must decide quickly if they are ready to sanction £15m [Daily Mirror] to secure his Summerville replacement.

Rowe enjoyed a remarkable breakout campaign last term for the Canaries, scoring 12 goals and adding two assists in the Championship.

That is a far cry from his potential predecessor’s 20 goals and nine assists but if replicated, it will massively help the Whites in their charge for automatic promotion.

Leeds have the money from the sales of Summerville and Archie Gray to invest in reinforcements and the opening-day disappointment will add further fuel to the fire that Farke’s side needs more signings before the end of the window.

The Whites adding another exciting young winger to the attacking talent at Elland Road will go a long way to easing those concerns.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an approach for Liverpool gem Bobby Clark.
