Leeds United transfer round-up: Attacker set for loan, striker move quashed
Leeds United are keeping their options open in the winter transfer market as the 3 February deadline grows nearer at Elland Road.
Although Daniel Farke has emphasised that his side aren’t in “panic mode” when it comes to new additions, the German has sanctioned outgoings in January which could facilitate upgrades to the squad.
Farke won’t be looking for a centre-back following good news on the injury front for Pascal Struijk, but an attacking midfielder, wide forward or striker could still come through the Elland Road doors.
Here, MOT Leeds News rounds up the rumoured incomings and outgoings from the last 24 hours (25 January).
Louie Barry update to leave Leeds United on high alert
Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry is a player admired by the Whites and seemingly half the Championship (at least), and the Yorkshire Post now report that he’s set to be made available for loan.
Villa boss Unai Emery, who sanctioned a recall from Barry’s successful spell with Stockport County in League One, plans to send him back out again, potentially leading to a frenzy of transfer activity.
In quotes shared by The Yorkshire Post Emery said: “We are very happy with Barry but we have one plan with him and that is to extend his contract and continue his process as a player, and to go on loan, get experience and confidence.”

Graham Smyth can’t see Leeds United signing Kelechi Iheanacho
On 23 January, SCORENigeria reported that former Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho – now under the tutelage of one Victor Orta at Sevilla – is set to make a move to Elland Road before 3 February.
However, Yorkshire Evening Post journalists Graham Smyth and Joe Donnohue were quick to dampen any links to Iheanacho, given he’s in far worse form than any of Farke’s current options.
On the Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth said: He said: “It doesn’t make a lot of sense, this one. As far as links go – some of them you think ‘that doesn’t get me up out of my armchair’.
“Wages for one. How his season has gone for another. Leeds are monitoring Patrick Bamford to see if they need a striker. But we know that Farke is happy with [Joel] Piroe and [Mateo] Joseph.”
Cardiff stance clear on Leeds United target Ollie Tanner
In terms of their options out wide, the Peacocks are spoilt for choice, but that hasn’t stopped them from taking an interest in 22-year-old Cardiff City winger Ollie Tanner.
However, despite Cardiff being firmly stuck in the lower reaches of the Championship table, Bluebirds manager Omer Riza has made clear that Tanner will be staying put in the Welsh capital this window.
In quotes reported by leedsunited.news on 25 January, Riza said: “Ollie’s a young lad, he’s one of ours and he’s doing really well.
“We need him, like we need all the other players in our team, and he’s doing well. He’s focused on doing his job at Cardiff and that’s it, really.”
In other Leeds news, the Peacocks could earn a small transfer windfall if one ex-player completes a seven-figure move.
