Leeds United: Sky Sports pundit raises Crysencio Summerville transfer ‘concern’ at Elland Road

Sky Sports pundit George Elek says Leeds United will be concerned about a Premier League club poaching Crysencio Summerville.

The Netherlands Under-21 international has a combined 19 goals and assists in 24 Championship games for Leeds this season.

Liverpool, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have each been credited with an interest in Summerville during the January transfer window.

Asked about Summerville’s future at Elland Road on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk pod [17 January, 9.31pm], Elek said: “I think it’s a concern.

“Leeds will be aware that Summerville has been maybe the best player in the Championship and therefore one or two clubs may make a bid.

“Summerville will also know it wasn’t long ago he was struggling to get into a side that was relegated from the Premier League.

“His stock has risen incredibly quickly. He’s got to be careful if an offer comes along, with no guarantee he’ll continue his form.

“It can be a career-changing move. Summerville is a player who should be playing European football, I’d say.”

What a player

Summerville has been superb for Leeds all campaign, with his 19 direct goal involvements bettered only by Southampton ace Adam Armstrong (25) in the second tier [FBref].

Had things panned out differently, it could easily have been Summerville who was poached by a Premier League club late in the January transfer window, rather than Luis Sinisterra.

Leeds always knew they had a hugely talented gem on their hands – he scored four goals and assisted two more in the Premier League, after all – but nobody quite expected this from him.

That comes at a risk, of course, as now teams a division higher may well be readying bids for the Dutchman. Thankfully, there has been no development of the sort so far.

However, with a couple of weeks of the window left to go, and thus more time for Summerville to catch the eye, Leeds fans will be glad when the deadline arrives.
