Leeds United could send shockwaves through the Championship amid reported interest in versatile Tottenham defender Ben Davies.

The Whites pulled off a number of transfer coups last summer, but Davies could yet trump those if he joins from the Premier League side.

According to Phil Hay, Leeds "have a speculative eye" on the Wales international's situation at Spurs with a view to making a loan offer.

Reporting for The Athletic [17 January], Hay does add that any move would be "incredibly unlikely" at this stage.

Davies has played 16 times for Tottenham in all competitions under Ange Postecoglou this season, including 10 starts in the Premier League.

On the face of it, Leeds therefore have little chance of landing the 30-year-old before the January transfer window closes for business.

However, Spurs have signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa this month, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are both back from injury.

Davies can play centre-back, full-back or wing-back, but Postecoglou also prefers Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro in the latter two positions.

A temporary move away from North London to somewhere he will play regularly should therefore not be entirely ruled out at this stage.

Just like with the signing of Ethan Ampadu, plus the loan deal for Joe Rodon, this transfer would make others in the division sit up and take notice.

Indeed, that Rodon deal may work in Leeds' favour as the Welshman has enhanced his reputation with consistent top-class performances.

Tottenham will have a revitalised Rodon back on their books in the summer, at which point they can decide whether to cash in or keep him.

The same could possibly happen for compatriot Davies, who really would ensure Leeds have a squad the rest of the division will be envious of.
