Leeds United transfer news as Willy Gnonto Napoli update shared
Napoli have internally discussed the possibility making a move for Leeds United Willy Gnonto, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Italy international is one of several players who have been linked with the Elland Road exit door after Leeds failed to win promotion to the Premier League.
Journalist Jacobs, speaking to Give Me Sport (18 June), provided an update on where Napoli are at in their interest on Gnonto.
“Napoli could be one to watch as well. They’ve discussed him internally, the new sporting director, Giovanni Manna, and new manager Antonio Conte are being kept informed on his situation,” Jacobs said.
“There’s been no approach to Leeds. It’s not clear what Napoli will do, because a lot of their business may be funded by the expected Victor Osimhen departure, but until that becomes concrete and an offer is on the table, Napoli obviously have to work to a different budget.
“And then if, as expected, Osimhen departs later in the window, they’ll have a bit more budget.
“So if there’s no Gnonto movement, and we kind of get into July or August, then keep an eye on Napoli.”
Why Leeds should allow Willy Gnonto to depart Elland Road this summer
There is no getting around the fact that Leeds are going to have plenty of interest in their star players this summer and at least one asset is likely to be sold.
Whether that is Gnonto or not remains to be seen, though given his efforts to depart Elland Road last summer it wouldn’t be a huge shock.
Others have been linked with a move too, though, with Illan Meslier among those reportedly receiving from interest from elsewhere [The Athletic, 14 June].
Crysencio Summerville is the player who has been most heavily linked with a move, though, with Brighton making an approach over the last couple of days [Fabrizio Romano, 17 June].

Given the choice, Leeds supporters would probably rather see Gnonto leave than Summerville given the latter was named as Championship Player of the Season.
Realistically, Summerville is going to command more interest and probably a higher fee, though, so if either player looks more certain to leave it is the Dutchman.
