Leeds United transfer news as Che Adams could seal Southampton exit in summer

Leeds United transfer target Che Adams could leave Southampton at the end of the season, with the West Yorkshire club one of several sides eyeing up a potential summer move, according to Mo Ibrahim.

The Whites have held a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old, dating back to the January window of 2019 under Marcelo Bielsa [Phil Hay], before most recently being linked with a £10million move last summer. [The Sun, 12 August]

Javi Gracia’s side has struggled for a consistent source of goals in Rodrigo’s recent injury absence, with Patrick Bamford failing to hit his previous heights and Georgino Rutter yet to fully adapt to life in the Premier League.

Writing via his personal Twitter account (Thursday, 9 March), Ibrahim shared that Adams could leave the Saints at the end of the season, with a number of clubs, including Leeds, interested in his services.

“Che Adams could leave Southampton in the summer with many clubs eyeing a potential move for him,” he wrote.

“Amongst clubs is Leeds United, who have kept an eye on him and have had him on their list for many years.”

Step back?

It is clear to see that Leeds’ major shortcomings this season have been in the final third, but is Adams really the forward to take the club forward and up the Premier League table?

The Southampton striker cannot be criticised for his work effort whenever leading the line, but his finishing isn’t always the best, and he has missed his fair share of chances out on the pitch this season.

As a squad player, the 26-year-old would be a useful signing, but whether he has the quality to lead the line at Elland Road on a weekly basis is questionable.

A return of just four goals from 22 appearances this campaign isn’t the most electrifying form, and Leeds could certainly find more potent finishers out there in the market.

On a cheap deal, a move for Adams makes sense, but the club shouldn’t look to break the back on this one.

In other Leeds United news, a key attacking duo could be set to return for the clash with Brighton this weekend.
