Leeds United told to shatter transfer record to sign Gustavo Hamer as bid submitted
Sheffield United have told Leeds United to pay a record-breaking £18million if they want to sign Gustavo Hamer this summer, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon page (27 August) that the Whites would have to bid £18million or above to sign the 27-year-old midfielder, a record transfer fee for a Championship team.
Daniel Farke’s side have already seen an initial offer of £13m knocked back for the Dutchman [The Star, 26 August], who only arrived at Bramall Lane 12 months ago, but Nixon states that another £5m could see them “land” Hamer.
Gustavo Hamer transfer could be transformational for Leeds United
Sheffield United must be tired of seeing and receiving emails and phone calls aplenty from LS11 concerning their star players, as the Whites continue to pull apart last season’s Premier League side.
Although Jamie Shackleton moved south to Sheffield following the expiration of his Peacocks contract, Farke’s side were soon back in talks with their neighbours for the signing of right-back Jayden Bogle.

Paying a £5m fee for the 24-year-old as opposed to the immediate £7m wanted by Chris Wilder [Nixon, 20 July], the Whites will be hesitant to stump up a whopping £18m for Hamer – even with the 30 August transfer deadline looming.
However, given such a move would smash the record set by Wolves, who paid £15.8m for Ruben Neves back in 2017, Hamer is certainly good enough to have a similar effect on the quality of Farke’s midfield.
Neves helped fire Wolves to the Premier League at the first time of asking in 2017/18, and seven seasons later, Hamer could do similar for Leeds as they look to go one better than May’s play-off final defeat.
