Leeds United told Crysencio Summerville ‘will leave’ if they lose playoff clash v Southampton

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville “will leave” Elland Road this summer if the Whites miss out on promotion, according to Simon Grayson.

The Dutchman has had an excellent season under Daniel Farke in the Championship, scoring 19 goals and laying on nine assists to help fire the Whites into the playoff final against Southampton on Sunday (26 May).

While a number of Premier League sides have already been linked with a move for the 22-year-old ahead of the summer, pundit Grayson believes he will inevitably leave if they remain in the second tier next season.

As quoted by Football League World (25 May) he said: “For Leeds, I expect Summerville will leave if Leeds weren’t to be promoted, but I’m not so sure on Archie Gray.

“There will be many people who will want to take him, depending on the price tag; but I think for him, he’ll be wanting to stay and to get regular first-team football for another year.

“Finances will dictate it. There are lots of players coming back from loans out in Europe, which is going to weigh heavily on them if they can’t get them out still in the Championship.

“So, there will be a lot of uncertain times in the summer if Leeds don’t get promoted. The best thing to do is win it at Wembley this weekend, then these problems are more or less solved.”

Will Crysencio Summerville leave Leeds United in the summer transfer window?

As Grayson suggests, if Leeds United win at Wembley on Sunday they won’t have to worry about the future of a number of their players as most of Farke’s squad are ready to make the step back up to the Premier League.

However, if they are to miss out they are going to have to cut their cloth accordingly and a number of the more high-profile members of the squad will be keen to force a move away, as was the case at the end of last season.

Summerville will be on several Premier League sides’ shopping lists already having won the Player of the Year award in the Championship and unlike Gray, he doesn’t have an emotional tie with Elland Road.

Hopefully, Farke’s men will get the job done and Sunday as it will have major positive repercussions both financially and on the pitch. The pressure is well and truly on and now they have to stand up to it and perform.
