Leeds United to sign Bashir Humphreys after Chelsea transfer developments
Carlton Palmer has backed Leeds United to sign Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys on loan following a recent transfer update.
Fabrizio Romano reported via his personal X account on Saturday [10 August] that the Whites are interested in the centre-back, facing competition from Burnley and clubs in Germany.
Now, the most recent report by the Mail on Sunday [11 August] says that Leeds have already sent a bid to the Blues, though it is not known whether the offer is on loan or a permanent deal.
Speaking to Football League World on Monday (12 August), Palmer said: “He’s a million miles from getting in the Chelsea first-team, so it’s the best solution for both the club and the player.
“I think it would be a very very good signing, he had a superb season at Swansea, so this would be a good addition to the squad.
“Leeds have sold a lot of players and brought in a lot of money, so they can bring in one or two players before the transfer window closes and they would prefer to bring in younger players rather than experienced ones. This would be a very good signing for Leeds.”
Leeds United to sign Bashir Humphreys this summer?
Despite only being able to make two senior appearances for Chelsea to date, there is no doubt that Humphreys is a talented defender, just waiting to be given his opportunity.
The 21-year-old spent last season out on loan with Swansea City, where he made 26 appearances in all competitions, even hitting the back of the net on one occasion.
Following Liam Cooper’s exit, Daniel Farke currently has Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Max Wober at his disposal in defence. However, if one of those were to be sidelined through injury, the manager could be lacking options very quickly.

While Humphreys has yet to be given a proper chance to impress at Stamford Bridge, he has already proven his abilities while on loan at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Also a former England Under-21s star, Leeds could be acquiring a very exciting young talent in defence, and after the uncertainty around Rodon’s return, it might be best to strike a permanent deal this summer.
