Leeds United to seal Alex Cairns transfer after new developments

Alex Cairns is set to re-join Leeds United from Salford City, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC journalist has reported that Cairns will be joining the club to cover the exit of Kristoffer Klaesson and counts as another homegrown player.

The 31-year-old will be third choice behind Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier as the Whites look to gain promotion to the Premier League next season.

What other transfer can Leeds United expect over the coming days?

There have been many changes within the Whites’ squad over the summer window thus far.

The biggest of those being the departure of Archie Gray to Tottenham for a fee worth £40million.

Marc Roca has also left and returned to his home country and could soon be joined by fellow countryman Diego Llorente following an 18-month stay in Rome.

Despite that, the incomings haven’t been as frequent with Joe Rodon making his loan stay permanent the only one announced so far.

Cairns returning to Elland Road may not be the big name that everyone was hoping for, but it ticks many boxes with Daniel Farke needing to build his squad again.

Given that only Gray and Klaesson have left from the squad last season so far, replacements for them will have been high on the list, with the Salford man set to cover the latter.

This is smart from Leeds, and they are getting their business done quietly.
