Leeds United make new Patrick Bamford exit decision amid Elland Road development

Leeds United are reluctant to sanction an exit for Patrick Bamford unless they are able to bring in a new striker in January, according to Leeds Live.

The online news outlet reports [12 January] that Daniel Farke is unlikely to sign off on an exit for Bamford until a new forward is brought in.

Bamford has been linked with a move to promotion rivals Blackburn Rovers [The Sun], among others, but any hopes of an exit appear to have been put on hold.

That is because fellow exit-linked forward Joe Gelhardt underwent a medical with Hull City [James Hoggarth] on Sunday (12 January) ahead of a proposed loan move, and Leeds are unwilling to lose any other options up top.

Patrick Bamford exit now looking unlikely at Leeds United

It was previously claimed that an exit for Gelhardt would be the only expected business done by the Whites in January and, with that move looking likely, it begs the question as to where the future lies for big-name star Bamford.

The striker just hasn’t had a foot in the door at Elland Road this season, despite the woes showcased by Mateo Joseph, with Joel Piroe evidently the preferred man up top.

If Gelhardt’s exit is indeed to be the only business done, not only would it showcase a complete lack of ambition, it would leave the Whites with a decision to make on Bamford.

A striker signing seems like an absolute necessity for Leeds this month and although Gelhardt hasn’t played a part, his exit leaves them with one less option in a position that has already caused season-long concerns.

Whether that transfer stance changes over the coming days and weeks will provide a telling factor as to where the true ambitions of the club are.
