Leeds United will likely be in the market for a goalkeeper with the futures of Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri still to be resolved.

Brazilian Perri had lost his place as the Whites' number one due to a string of poor performances and mistakes.

However, with Darlow's contract expiring at the end of June, reports linking Leeds to goalkeepers have been rife, with Nick Pope one of those names.

Now, ahead of the summer transfer window, the Elland Road outfit will be keeping a close eye on the transfer rumblings at St James' Park.

Why Leeds have a new hope over Nick Pope transfer

Daniel Farke's side have been linked to a number of goalkeepers, including both James Trafford and Nick Pope.

For Trafford, an exit at Manchester City looks likely with the Englishman falling behind Gianliugi Donnarumma in the pecking order.

However, for Pope, his situation is a lot different, with the 34-year-old the current number one for the Geordies.

With Aaron Ramsdale returning to Southampton from his loan, Eddie Howe will need to sign at least one more goalkeeper.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle "have already held talks with Ewen Jaouen".

Discussions for the 20-year-old French shot-stopper are said to "ongoing".

The arrival of Jaouen would push Leeds one step closer to potentially landing Pope, despite Jaouen being tipped as the back-up option.

With Pope having one-year left on his contract, Leeds could tempt Newcastle into cashing in this summer.

However, another number one would likely have to arrive up North first, and Leeds will keep a close eye on Newcastle's business.

Nonetheless, if Pope is deemed the man to take the number one spot at Elland Road, this update is certainly a renewal of hope.

What is the latest on Karl Darlow's future at Leeds?

Uncertainty is still the best word to describe the current ongoings around Darlow at the moment.

While Leeds are reportedly looking to pen the Welshman down to new terms, much of that will decide on the 35-year-old's ambitions.

According to The Athletic "Darlow will not be left in the dark about what to expect if he does sign a new contract," so if he does not sign a new deal, you cannot really blame the goalkeeper.

At his age, there will not be many seasons left for him in football, and he may simply want to play as much as he can before his career comes to a twilight.
