Leeds United to complete brand new transfer after Elland Road development

Leeds United are expected to sign a new backup goalkeeper shortly following a new development at Elland Road, according to Joe Donnohue.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via X on Sunday (7 July) that the Whites are expected to secure a new third-choice stopper after Kristoffer Klaesson completed his summer move to Rakow Czestochowa.

Klaesson only made one league appearance for the Whites last season as he fell behind both Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow in Daniel Farke’s pecking order, but he will be replaced during pre-season.

Are Leeds United close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

While a new backup keeper won’t do much to get Leeds United supporters up and out of their seats, fans can at least get excited at the prospect of a new arrival this summer given the lack of incoming action.

Whether or not this goalkeeper will even play a minute of football next term remains to be seen and there doesn’t appear to be a clear candidate to come in and step into Klaesson’s role immediately during pre-season.

Unless somebody comes in with a big offer for Meslier or even Darlow between now and the start of next season, you would imagine that the new signing will be little more than a bench warmer unless either stopper picks up an injury.

Hopefully, the Whites will move quickly to get their new man through the door at Elland Road. The sooner this deal is done, the quicker Leeds can turn their attention to one or two more high-profile signings ahead of the new campaign.

Farke won’t want to lose any more of his first-team stars following Archie Gray’s big-money move to Tottenham this summer, but he will also know a few more additions will be needed if the Whites want to win promotion.
