Leeds United table offer for Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera - report
Leeds United have tabled a bid for 23-year-old Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera, according to FUTVE English.
The Twitter account specialises in all things Venezuelan football, and is followed by NY Times journalist Tariq Panja, Canadian-Venezuelan Rangers Women footballer Sonia O’Neill and Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig.
On Friday evening, they wrote: “There are ‘offers on the table’ for Yangel Herrera from four Premier League clubs.
“FUTVE English have been reliably informed Crystal Palace, Southampton, West Ham and Leeds are all after the Manchester City midfielder.
“The strongest offer is from Crystal Palace.”
Fits the bill
There have been persistent reports linking the 21-cap Venezeula international with a move to Elland Road.
The most recent was by The Sun, who claimed last week that Leeds wanted to sign him, and Manchester City were willing to sell.
Herrera has never actually played for the Premier League champions since signing in 2017, spending time at New York City and Huesca before heading out on loan to La Liga side Granada for the last two campaigns.
However, he’s a player billed as having immense potential, with legendary Spanish forward David Villa predicting him to become “world-class”[Marca] while playing with him in America.
As a tenacious and energetic midfielder, he would seem to fit the bill under Marcelo Bielsa, but there has been a slew of midfielders linked with a move recently, notably Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, so it’s hard to know which one Victor Orta will move for.
Regardless, it looks like Palace are leading the way with their manager Patrick Vieira well acquainted with Herrera having coached him at New York City, though one has to fancy the lure of Leeds and Bielsa if he is given the option.
In other Leeds United news, a talkSPORT pundit has made a Bielsa exit suggestion in ‘Lucky’ Whites swipe.
