Leeds United have tabled an offer for Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa, according to Croatian outlet sportske novosti.

The 23-year-old is a Croatian Under-21 international who has become embroiled in a controversy over an attempted switch to the German national side.

The report says of all the stories in recent times this is one of the "craziest" and called the move an attempted 'kidnap' by Germany.

However, the report claims it has ended with Sosa being told that he isn't eligible to make the switch, despite having German citizenship.

He played for the Croatian Under-21s when he was 22 against Scotland and this has disqualified him from making the switch.

In the same report, Croatian manager Franjo Vranjković said, "The most important thing for him is to make a transfer to England because he has an offer from Leeds United."

He went on to say that other Premier League sides are interested in the player who he thinks is worth £17.2m (€20m).

Sosa reportedly applied for German citizenship so that he could make the switch to England without playing for the senior international side.

Fits the bill in age and attacking intent

Sosa is a left-back and the right age for Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa.

He's also been putting in good numbers for Stuttgart.

Football analyst Marcus Bring said that "if you want a chance creating left-back, wing-back, Borna Sosa is your guy. One of the Bundesliga revelations of the season."

Meanwhile, football writer Karki Aashraya said he would be the perfect replacement for Jordi Alba at Barcelona.

Sosa has made 10 assists in just 24 games in the Bundesliga, the most of any player except for Juan Cuadrado.

That all adds up to a player who's very interesting, fits the bill and plays in a position that Leeds are desperate to fill.
