Leeds United stance on permanent Darko Gyabi exit shared after Plymouth Argyle loan transfer
Plymouth Argyle tried to sign Darko Gyabi permanently this summer but Leeds United were not willing to sanction his exit, according to Plymouth Live.
The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (9 July) that although the Whites have allowed him to return to Home Park on a second loan deal for the season, they didn’t want to lose him permanently.
While Leeds do have a window of opportunity to cut his loan spell short in the January transfer window, it is understood to only be available for a brief period and the Whites aren’t expected to take that option.
As quoted by Plymouth Live, Pilgrims chief Neil Dewnsip said: “One of our methods of success over the last few years is having had players on loan, and then being able to go back to buy them in some cases.
“Darko wasn’t on the market to be bought. Leeds didn’t encourage that discussion. We did have a little nibble at that but it wasn’t really on their agenda, but to get him back on loan was the next best thing we could do, and that’s what we have achieved.
“We all thought he contributed massively last year so the fact he was injured at the end of the season, that was really disappointing for me and Nance (first team coach Kevin Nancekivell) not to be able to select him.”
Can Leeds United recall Darko Gyabi from his loan with Plymouth Argyle?
Although first-team opportunities were going to be limited for Gyabi at Leeds United this season, the Whites clearly feel that there is still a player in there that they aren’t quite yet ready to cut their ties this summer.
Although Daniel Farke’s side will be hoping to compete at the other end of the table than Plymouth, they will be reluctant to sell a player permanently to a rival in their division especially when a temporary move makes more sense.

During his time at Home Park last term, the young midfielder showed that he can be a force in the Championship and Leeds will be hoping that another successful spell this term will help him break into the first team.
If he doesn’t quite hit the heights required to break into the side the Whites will more than likely be able to pocket a bigger fee for him after he has played a full season of Championship football than they could if he’d sat on the bench for another campaign.
