Sources at Elland Road do not expect Cody Drameh to accept his new contract with Leeds United, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist reported on Friday (14 June) that those close to the club don't expect the defender to pen a new deal with the Whites, despite the last-minute offer of an extension to his deal in Yorkshire.

Drameh spent the 2023/24 season on loan with Birmingham City and while he was expected to depart Elland Road as a free agent this summer, he was named on Leeds' retained list as a player to be offered a new deal.

Will Cody Drameh leave Leeds United and Elland Road during the summer transfer window?

It has become almost inevitable that Drameh would depart Leeds United this summer and the late contact offer did very little to convince supporters he would still be a Whites player come the start of next season.

There is plenty of talent there, but for whatever reason the 22-year-old has never been able to establish himself as a regular part of the first-team set-up at Elland Road and that doesn't appear likely to change over the off-season.

With Sam Byram agreeing a new contract and the Whites desperate to keep Archie Gray, there is no obvious route for Drameh to force his way into Daniel Farke's side on a regular basis, unless someone else is sold.

By offering the defender a new deal at Elland Road, the Whites guarantee that they will receive some sort of compensation fee if and when he pens a contract elsewhere. Their last-minute offer was likely little more than an attempt to ensure they could cash in.

Hopefully, a decision will be reached and made public sooner rather than later, that way both Drameh and Farke's side can begin preparing for next season knowing exactly where they stand.
