Leeds United sign Ao Tanaka in time for Hull City amid Isaac Schmidt update live on Sky Sports

Ao Tanaka can face Hull City at Elland Road on 31 August after completing his move to Leeds United from Fortuna Dusseldorf, Sky Sports reports.

According to Tim Thornton live outside Elland Road on 30 August the Japanese midfielder is set to wear the number 22 shirt for the Whites after becoming the seventh signing of the summer on a four-year deal.

Isaac Schmidt is in line to be the eighth as he is still on his way in for a medical this afternoon after playing for FC St Gallen last night.

Thornton said: “Number seven could become number eight because Isaac Schmidt who plays for St Gallen in the Swiss Super League, he’s on his way to Leeds right now and we’re expecting him here at Leeds this afternoon for a medical. That deal is progressing.”

Ao Tanaka could make Elland Road debut for Leeds United on Saturday

Vital progress is being made to get the key business done before the deadline and the earlier Schmidt joins Tanaka as a confirmed deal the more time there will be left to pursue potential bonus deals.

Graham Smyth reported for the Yorkshire Evening Post on 30 August that the full-back’s signing is very much expected after the Japanese midfielder’s.

The Swiss defender would become the fourth of four key signings Daniel Farke wanted to replace what he has lost this summer, with Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon the other two.

Roland Sallai has been heavily linked from Freiberg [HITC, 29 August] but the Hungarian winger appears not to be anywhere near as likely.

What looked like a needlessly chaotic start to the season appears to be turning a corner with a host of new signings made off the back of the first Championship victory of the campaign at Sheffield Wednesday last week.

And Farke will need to capitalise on that against the Tigers once the window is shut, whether Tanaka is included or not.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are also pushing hard for another attacking ace for over £7million.
