Leeds United set to lose out on Portuguese forward Adler Nascimento
Leeds United are set to lose the race to sign 16-year-old Peterborough forward Adler Nascimento, according to the Daily Mail.
The British newspaper, writing on their website, claims Crystal Palace are closing in on the “prolific” Portuguese teenager’s signature from the recently-promoted Championship club.
Leeds were keen on signing him this summer, as per the Daily Mail’s report, but he is bound for south London to link up with new Eagles manager Patrick Vieira.
Can’t win them all
Leeds have been prolific in acquiring the best youngsters in England over the last few years, with last summer proving a particularly successful time.
Joe Gelhardt [Wigan Athletic], Sam Greenwood [Arsenal] and Cody Drameh [Fulham] were all brought to West Yorkshire by the eagle-eyed scouts at Leeds, and the trio played instrumental roles as the Under-23s side swept all before them en route to the Premier League 2 (Divison 2) title.

That success has ensured the second-string Whites side will be plying their trade in the top division now, against heavyweights like Manchester City and Chelsea.
As such, the club have already swooped to sign a couple more emerging talents in the form of Sean McGurk [Wigan] and Amari Miller [Birmingham City].
There look to be more talents on the way, with Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth writing on Thursday [15/07/21] that further reinforcements were being eyed.
It’s not clear whether Nascimento would have slotted into the Under-23s side given his youthful years – he is still only 16 – and therefore he might have been thrown into the Under-18s instead.
Perhaps that goes some way to explaining the move – Crystal Palace may have been able to offer a quicker pathway to the first team, and it’s hard to begrudge the youngster the opportunity to play senior football as the quickest opportunity.
Given the array of talent we have brought to Thorp Arch recently, one is always going to slip through the net, and Nascimento might be the one this year.
Regardless, the club will likely be lining up their next move for a prodigious young star.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made a bid close to the asking price for this European talent.
