Leeds United ready bid to sign Norwegian goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson

Valerenga are bracing themselves to receive a bid from Leeds United for goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, according to Nettavisen.

The Norwegian news outlet reports that Klaesson, 20, is a long-term target of the Whites and they have concrete interest in signing the Norway Under-21 international this summer.

It is understood that Leeds are readying a bid to sign Klaesson in the “near future” and Valerenga are preparing themselves for that to happen.

Promising young goalkeeper

Klaesson ticks a lot of boxes when you read about him.

Although he’s only 20-years-old, the Valerenga goalkeeper has already made 55 senior appearances for his club with 13 of them coming in the current Norwegian season.

In the 2021 campaign, he’s kept two clean sheets and conceded 17 goals but Nettavisen describes the shot-stopper as “one of the Eliteserien’s best goalkeepers the last two seasons, and has delivered stable performances despite his young age”.

He sounds good, doesn’t he?

But let’s face it, if we’re going to replace Kiko Casilla it should not really be another young goalkeeper coming in to do so.

Illan Meslier is – and should be – our number one goalkeeper. But now Casilla’s joined Elche on loan, our number two will be Elia Caprile, who’s 19-years-old. After him, Dani van den Heuvel will probably be next in the pecking order and he’s only recently turned 18.

We need someone with experience as our new number two. We need someone who doesn’t need several games to warm their gloves up if there’s an injury or suspension for Meslier. We need someone who can help teach the young Frenchman in training and we need someone who can rub off on him.

We like the sound of Klaesson but we’re unsure whether he’s the right fit.

In other Leeds United news, this young goalkeeper has already confirmed his arrival in West Yorkshire.
