Darryl Ombang confirms arrival at Leeds United
Young goalkeeper Darryl Ombang has confirmed his move to Leeds United on Twitter.
Last month, the Daily Mail reported that the Whites were on the verge of signing the 16-year-old from Yorkshire rivals Bradford City.
Now, Ombang has uploaded an image of himself on Twitter signing a contract at Leeds and holding a number 21 shirt at Elland Road.
One for the future
Leeds need a new goalkeeper after loaning Kiko Casilla out to La Liga outfit Elche but we doubt that Ombang will be his replacement in the first-team.
He is someone who arrives at Leeds very highly rated.
According to the Mail, Ombang is “considered among the most promising young goalkeepers coming through in England”.
He played for Bradford’s Under-18s since he turned 14, such is his talent while he’s also been included in England Under-16s squads in the last year.
Manchester United and Everton have reportedly kept tabs on Omang but it is Leeds who have won the race for his signature and that’s great news.
We have plenty of young goalkeepers at Elland Road.
Illan Meslier is the cream of the crop having held down a number one spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team last season.
Elia Caprile and Dani van den Heuvel are in the Under-23s squad and will no doubt be vying for a spot in the first-team now Casilla’s gone.
Ombang will surely be below them all in the pecking order due to his tender age but we could see him get some Under-18s minutes next season.
He’s someone to keep an eye on, that’s for sure.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this creative dynamo from a Serie A club.
