Leeds United reach transfer agreement as new Ao Tanaka update emerges
Leeds United have reached an agreement with Fortuna Dusseldorf over the £4million transfer of Ao Tanaka, according to HITC.
The news outlet reported on 29 August that Elland Road sources claimed that everything was agreed with the Japan international jetting in for his Leeds medical.
The 25-year-old central midfield is understood to be a long-term target for Leeds who are finally set to sign him ahead of the transfer deadline.
Ao Tanaka is a quality acquisition by Leeds United
Tanaka’s acquisition by Leeds significantly bolsters their midfield, bringing a blend of versatility and technical prowess.
His ability to operate across various midfield roles, from a deep-lying playmaker to a more advanced creative position, offers tactical flexibility to Daniel Farke’s squad.
He’s also rated highly by Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, who said: “If there is a player I would take from Fortuna Düsseldorf it will be Ao Tanaka. He has an incredible technique. You won’t know about him unless you are working really hard on football scouting”.
The 25-year-old’s experience in the Japan national team and his performance underline his capability to influence games both offensively and defensively.
His signing, especially at a relatively low transfer fee, represents a smart investment for Leeds, aiming to fill the void left by departures like Glen Kamara.
His addition is seen as a strategic move to adapt and possibly excel in the Championship’s competitive environment, providing not just immediate impact but also long-term value with his contract extending until 2028.

Hopefully, this is a signing that can turn the fortunes around for the Whites and ensure that they secure promotion this season.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now favourites to secure the transfer of a defender who’s set his sights on an England move.
