Leeds United: Official announcement pending for Brenden Aaronson arrival amid medical news

An official statement is “pending” for Leeds United to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, according to Salzburger Nachrichten.

The Austrian newspaper relays reports from elsewhere in the world with Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reporting on 23 May that Aaronson, 21, will “soon” undergo a medical with the Whites.

Plettenberg added that there is a “total agreement” between Leeds and Salzburg for the USA international to head to Elland Road for a fee between £23.7million and £25.4million.

Salzburger Nachrichten now suggest that an official announcement will come in due course.

On the cusp

Leeds do look as though they’ll be wrapping up this transfer very soon.

It’s been a great week for the Whites.

Not only have they secured their Premier League status for next season but they’ve also made major strides towards sorting out an area of the squad that’s needed fixing.

For whatever reason, Marcelo Bielsa didn’t sign a single central midfield player for the senior side in his time at Elland Road.

Jesse Marsch, it seems, isn’t waiting around to sanction such a move.

Of course, Victor Orta is the main man behind this as bids were reportedly made for Aaronson in the January transfer window.

Orta would have done that with Bielsa’s blessing and a deal would more than likely have been done if Salzburg hadn’t made it to the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

Orta’s got a lot to prove this summer because some of his recent big-money signings – Rodrigo, Daniel James and Junior Firpo – have failed to impress considering how much was spent on them.

Let’s hope Aaronson falls into the Raphinha and Patrick Bamford category.

In other Leeds United news, this player is set to undergo a medical “soon” with the Whites.
