Leeds United offer Piroe in player-plus-cash bid for Hamer amid ‘strong suspicion’ at Sheffield United

Leeds United offered Joel Piroe to Sheffield United in their latest bid to seal a blockbuster move for Gustavo Hamer before Friday’s transfer deadline, according to the Sheffield Star.

Reporter Danny Hall wrote for the newspaper’s online edition (29 August) that the Blades turned down an initial £13million offer from the Whites and that they had a “strong suspicion” Leeds purposely went in with a low-ball offer to unsettle Hamer.

Leeds have no apparently tried to offer forward Piroe into the equation as they attempt to complete a deadline-busting move for the 27-year-old attacking midfielder.

However, Hall added that the Blades have no interest in considering Piroe, signed for more than £10million from Swansea City a year ago (BBC Sport), as he does not fit their plans for the closing stages of the window.

Leeds United might have to go back to the drawing board for Gustavo Hamer

Leeds are working hard to get some late business done before the window slams shut at 11pm on Friday, with Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka reportedly set to have a medical at Elland Road.

Manor Solomon has already joined on loan from Tottenham, while a deal for St Gallen full-back Isaac Schmidt is said to be close (Mike McGrath) and Bournemouth full-back Max Aarons seemingly remains an active target.

But as it relates to Hamer, who joined the Blades from Coventry City last summer, it looks as though Leeds are going to have to come up with a different plan as their Yorkshire rivals seemingly have no interest in Piroe.

There is money to spend with over £100million raised in player sales from the likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter this window.

And seemingly they will have to use a decent chunk of that cash if they want to sign Hamer, who has three years left to run on his deal.

In other Leeds United news, one player could leave Elland Road in a last-gasp deal with a new bid on the cards.
