Leeds United news as attempt made to seal Manchester City ace James McAtee transfer

Leeds United have made a “bold attempt” to secure the services of Manchester City midfielder James McAtee in January, according to Caught Offside.

The news outlet reported on 20 November that West Ham, Celtic, Lens, Lille, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Feyenoord, VfB Stuttgart and Girona are all keen on the 22-year-old.

It’s understood that City are open to his sale for a fee potentially exceeding £20million.

Leeds United must consider bringing James McAtee in on loan

The Whites’ interest in McAtee is ambitious but financially unfeasible in terms of a permanent transfer given Manchester City’s £20million+ valuation.

For Leeds, currently aiming for promotion from the Championship, a loan deal presents a more realistic pathway.

This arrangement could benefit both clubs as the Elland Road outfit would gain a talented midfielder to enhance their squad’s creativity and push for Premier League return, while the Citizens would maintain control over the 22-year-old’s development, potentially increasing his market value.

A successful loan stint in a competitive environment like the Championship could showcase McAtee’s abilities, much like previous loan spells at Sheffield United have done.

Such a move aligns with City’s strategy of loaning out young talents for experience without losing control, while providing Leeds with a high-potential player without the immediate financial burden of a permanent deal.
