Leeds United must be quick to pounce as fresh Lois Openda update emerges
Leeds United have been reported to hold interest in Lois Openda heading into the summer window.
The Belgian striker has not been the success that Juventus were hoping for, and he is now surplus to requirements.
A new forward looks to be on the agenda for Daniel Farke, with numerous links emerging over the past few weeks.
However, Openda is perhaps the highest profile player among those players and while the Old Lady are looking to part ways, they will not want to be left short.
So, Leeds will likely have to wait for a replacement to arrive in Turin, and it may not be long now but the Peacocks will face Premier League competition for his signature.
Which other Premier League club is tracking Lois Openda?
Having to battle it out to sign a player is never an ideal situation, and if Openda tops Leeds' shortlist, they may run into that inconvenience.
Nottingham Forest are now reportedly in the hunt for the 33-cap Belgian international, and a lot could depend on other exits within the Premier League.
That is according to the Daily Mail, which now states that Juventus' interest in Crystal Palace forward Jean-Phillipe Mateta "could open the door" to an approach for Openda.
The information from the news outlet is in the context of Forest's interest in the striker, but with Leeds also looking to snap up the forward, it also has meaning for them.
So, if Mateta does make his way to the Allianz Stadium, the Whites will have to be ready to pounce on their man.
If not, they risk Nottingham Forest making their swoop and leaving the LS11 outfit to turn to another target.
Why Openda could be a market opportunity for Leeds
Leeds are not in a position to be splashing the cash, and Paraag Marathe made it clear that, financially, the Whites would not feel like a Premier League club until three successive seasons in the top-flight.
However, previous reports have suggested that Juventus would be open to allowing Openda to leave on a loan deal with potential for it to become a permanent buy.
If Leeds can negotiate that clause to be an option, rather than obligation, it could be a shrewd piece of business for the 49ers.
While this season has not gone to plan for the 26-year-old, he has proved himself as a goalscorer in the Bundesliga.
With little finances risked in a loan deal, that would represent an excellent market opportunity that the Elland Road side should not pass up on.
