Leeds United are interested in Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi.

Elvedi has been linked with Elland Road for months now, with the door starting to gradually open.

Daniel Farke's side secured Premier League survival last term with an experienced squad, and they look to be following a similar route.

The 29-year-old made the move to Gladbach in 2015, and has been there ever since.

With what would likely be the final move of his career with any real financial value, the Bundesliga side are looking to make the most out of the deal.

As a result, Leeds could be set to face some further difficulties as they look to get this one over the line.

Leeds line up Elvedi transfer with new offer

German outlet Bild reports that an offer of around £7.3million has been deemed not enough by Gladbach.

With Elvedi having just a year left on his deal, the Foals are determined to make as much as they can out of a potential move.

The Rhinelanders have been in this situation before - leading to their most recent downturn in form.

In 2022 and 2023, they lost Matthias Ginter (Freiburg), Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan) and Ramy Bensebaini (Borussia Dortmund), all on free transfers.

This came just after a period in which they had been in and around the race for Europe, while the lack of funds to replace three departing stars severely held them back.

In recent years, Gladbach have fought against relegation multiple times, while stars have had to leave in Rocco Reitz and Ko Itakura.

With Elvedi, the former German giants are determined to avoid a similar situation, with Leeds' bid not accepted with glee.

Daniel Farke has already outlined why Leeds should sign Nico Elvedi as transfer latest shared

Why Leeds would make sense for Nico Elvedi

At 29, the centre-back is vastly experienced, having spent almost the entirety of his career at a club with lofty ambitions.

These have not quite come to fruition, but he has still earned his stripes at a very high level.

Leeds recruited well last summer, with Farke leaning heavily on experience, and players already in their prime.

Elvedi would most definitely bring more of the same, allowing the Whites to begin adding younger talent to compliment what would be a strong and experienced group.

Given they have worked together before, Farke knows exactly what he would be getting at Elland Road.
