Leeds United make Darko Gyabi loan re-call decision

Leeds United are highly unlikely to re-call Darko Gyabi who is on loan at Plymouth Argyle, according to Beren Cross.

The LeedsLive journalist reported on 18 December that Farke likes his players on loan to have one full season away from the club to further their development.

Gyabi, who moved to Elland Road from Manchester City in 2022, has been getting regular playing time this campaign under Wayne Rooney.

Leeds United must not re-call Darko Gyabi in January

It makes sense to not use the re-call option as Gyabi is gaining valuable first-team experience under Rooney, which is crucial for young players like him.

At Leeds, with the current squad depth in midfield, recalling Gyabi would likely mean limited playing time, which could stunt his development.

Farke’s plan to have loanees complete a full season elsewhere is aimed at ensuring players return more mature and ready for the demands of the Premier League or Championship.

Moreover, if the Whites need to reinforce their midfield, they might look for a player of a higher calibre who can make an immediate impact, possibly on loan.

At this stage, there’s very little merit in re-calling Gyabi unless he’s getting his chance to hone his skills at a better club.

Hopefully, the loan spell holds him in good stead and he’s ready to compete for a first-team berth next season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign a defender who cost £11m in June with a transfer on the cards on one condition.
