Leeds United line up spectacular January loan bid for De Ketelaere, it could now happen

Leeds United are lining up a stunning January loan move for AC Milan forward Charles De Ketelaere, according to a report by 90min.

The Whites spent a large chunk of the summer transfer window trying to sign De Ketelaere from Genk, even going as far as agreeing a fee with the Belgian club, only for the player to opt for the Serie A giants instead.

But having struggled so far in Italy since his move, Leeds are prepared to go back in for him for a short-term deal and Milan are open to a possible exit.

“Milan are lining up Ziyech as they consider the short-term future of De Ketelaere, who has struggled to make much of an impact at San Siro with just one assist in 18 appearances before the World Cup,” they wrote (25 November).

“Clubs from across Europe are watching De Ketelaere’s situation – 90min understands Leeds are considering a loan bid – and Milan are not yet believed to have ruled out loaning the Belgian, whose departure would help speed up Ziyech’s arrival.”

This is a transfer saga that went on for far too long during the summer, with the player making it quite clear that he wasn’t interested in a move to Elland Road, so to go through it all again is crazy.

De Ketelaere is young and exciting, but his struggles in Italy when it comes to scoring goals or even creating chances throw up big red flags about how he would perform in a side that isn’t as good and has far less possession.

It’s not even been six months since he turned us down, and while Milan may be open to him leaving on a short-term deal it’s highly unlikely that he would have changed his mind on us in that period.

One journalist has already described the deal as “almost impossible” to do, and with Leeds really in need of a reliable goalscoring threat in attack they can’t dedicate too much time to this anymore.

Look for someone who will improve the team, but also someone who wants to be here and the performance will be far greater than just an exotic name.
