Leeds United are targeting Sunderland defender Trai Hume ahead of the summer transfer window at Elland Road, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The outlet reported on its website on Saturday (30 March) that Daniel Farke's side are joined by Aston Villa, Leicester City, Bournemouth and Napoli in holding an interest in the Northern Irish international.

Hume signed a new deal at the Stadium of Light in 2023 and is valued at around £8million by the Black Cats, with Irish side Linfield in line to earn 15 per cent of any fee received due to a clause in their original sale.

The Whites have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old Northern Irish international ahead of the summer transfer window as they hope to bring the defender up to the Premier League if they win promotion this term.

Will Daniel Farke spend much money on transfers in the summer at Leeds United?

Leeds United could do with a new defensive option this summer at Elland Road as they are short of fullbacks, especially with Luke Ayling set to leave Yorkshire permanently at the end of the season.

While Connor Roberts has impressed since arriving on loan from Burnley, it remains to be seen whether or not the Whites would be keen to make his stay permanent, or whether they will look at alternative options this summer.

Hume has impressed at right-back for Sunderland this season and has looked a natural in England's second tier. He's unproven at a Premier League level but has shown throughout his career so far that he is adaptable.

Whether Leeds could beat some of the big hitters to his signature remains to be seen and a deal certainly won't come cheap. But if this transfer works out, the Whites may have found a new full-back for the foreseeable future.
