Report: Leeds meet with agent of £18m-rated 20y/o with CL experience, talks progressing

Leeds United are in talks with Benfica midfielder Florentino, according to journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

The 20-year-old Portugal Under-21 player has been linked with Leeds before and, in a report on TMW, Palmeri claims that contact between Leeds and Florentino started in February.

Since then, there have been remote meetings during lockdown and a face-to-face meeting with his agent Bruno Carvalho last week.

The fee talked about is between £18m and £27m and it’s said that Leeds would have to beat AC Milan to a deal.

Palmeri says no offer has been made but that Leeds are progressing with the potential deal.

Florentino is an exciting prospect who has been linked with a big-money move to Man United.

A defensive midfielder, he’s been nicknamed The Octopus because of the ground he covers and the balls he wins in midfield.

He had a crazy £110m release clause but his price has seemingly plummeted, partly down to injury last season and losing his place in the Benfica side. However, he did start twice in the Champions League last season, playing 90 minutes in both games against Lyon.

Palmeri himself described the release clause as “crazy” and said the lower price tag could now aid negotiations.

Plenty of Leeds fans were thrilled when Leeds were linked with Florentino earlier this year – one said he was “one of the biggest prospects in Europe”.

Fans are likely to be even more excited at the news that Leeds have met with his agent.

Kalvin Phillips is obviously the club’s number one in that position so it would be interesting to see how Florentino would fit into Bielsa’s system.

However, he’s definitely an exciting name to add to the list.
