Leeds United in talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been in talks over a loan move to Leeds United, according to Football.London.

The football news website reports that Gallagher, 21, has been in pre-season training with the Chelsea first-team this summer as he attempts to impress Thomas Tuchel after a mixed loan spell at West Brom last term.

It is understood that Crystal Palace have held talks with the England Under-21 international but Leeds are said to have “put together a very impressive presentation” to try to lure the central midfielder to Elland Road.

Perfect signing

If Leeds can get Gallagher on loan then it would be great.

If they can get the ex-West Brom loan star on a loan-to-buy deal, that would be incredible.

Gallagher was a mainstay of the West Brom midfield last season as they were relegated from the Premier League.

He was easily one of their best players as he made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies, scoring two goals and supplying two assists in the process.

However, Gallagher wasn’t really used as someone to get forward and get goals and assists, he mainly stood out as an absolute pest for defenders to deal with.

Gallagher plays his game at 100mph, getting in the faces of opponents, making tackles, fouls and interceptions before moving the ball on.

According to stats by WhoScored, Gallagher made more tackles per game [2.7] than anyone else in the Baggies squad last term. That number ranked him joint-ninth in the whole of the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa will love him. And so will we.

Let’s hope this one comes off.
